Instructions for migrating filesFile Storage Overview Whether you know it or not, you already have several file storage areas:
Two College of Business storage areas: file storage and web storageUntil June 20, 2008, every student will have two storage areas on Cob-Storage: an area for storing general files and a web storage area.
Moving messages from your College of Business box to your ONID box. If you have files on the college's Cob-Storage server that you want to keep, you have several approaches to use. The most obvious method is to stick a flash drive in the USB port of a computer in the basement of Bexell Hall, and then copy files onto your flash drive. Another approach is to copy files into your ONID storage area. The rest of this section describes how you can drag folders from Cob-Storage to ONID (and vice-versa) to move lots of files easily. The basic approach will involve setting up two Explorer windows: one will show your Cob-Storage files and the other will show your ONID file storage area. Then you will be able to copy folders from one window to the other. These instructions assume you are in the College of Business basement computer lab. Begin by logging onto one of the computers with your Business account. Next, click the Start button and select Run. In the Run dialog box, type \\onid-fs\username, where you replace username with your actual ONID username.
When prompted for your User name, enter ONID\username, where you replace username with your actual ONID username. Type your ONID password in the password box. Note: You MUST type ‘ONID\’ before your username.
You should now be looking at an Explorer window showing the files and folders in your ONID storage area, as shown below:
Next, open a My Computer window and find the folders you want to copy to ONID. Now that you have two file management windows open, you can use simple copy-and-paste commands to copy files or folders from one window to the other. |
